What does this intervention involve?

Background

HVPG is the gold standard for portal hypertension quantification and treatment response assessment.

Procedure

Balloon catheter via jugular vein to hepatic vein. Pressures measured with balloon inflated and deflated. Duration: 20-30 minutes.

Risks

Minimal (cervical hematoma, transient arrhythmia).

Recovery

Same-day discharge.

Practical information

Local anesthesia. Outpatient procedure (return home the same day).
