What does this intervention involve?

Background

Chronic mesenteric ischemia causes postprandial abdominal pain and weight loss.

Procedure

Balloon and stent in SMA and/or celiac trunk. Duration: 1-2 hours.

Risks

Intestinal embolism, dissection, restenosis, mesenteric infarction.

Recovery

2-3 day stay. Gradual refeeding. Doppler follow-up.

Practical information

Local anesthesia. Hospital stay: 2 to 3 nights.
