What does this intervention involve?
Background
Spinal AVMs/fistulas may cause progressive myelopathy (leg weakness, sphincter dysfunction) from venous congestion.
Procedure
Under general anesthesia, microcatheter navigated to spinal arteries feeding the malformation. Careful embolization preserving normal spinal arteries. Duration: 2-5 hours.
Risks
Paraplegia (spinal cord ischemia), neurological worsening.
Recovery
3-5 day hospitalization. Follow-up spinal MRI.
Practical information
General anesthesia. Hospital stay: 3 to 5 nights.
