What does this intervention involve?

Background

Recurrent malignant pleural effusion requiring repeated thoracentesis.

Procedure

Similar to tunneled peritoneal drain. Duration: 30-45 minutes.

Risks

Pleural infection, obstruction, pain. May induce spontaneous pleurodesis.

Recovery

Patient education. Regular home drainage.

Practical information

Local anesthesia. Outpatient procedure (return home the same day).
