What does this intervention involve?
Background
Congenital venous malformations causing pain, functional impairment or aesthetic concern.
Procedure
Under general anesthesia/sedation and US/fluoroscopic guidance, the malformation is punctured and sclerosant injected. Multiple sessions often needed (2-5). Duration: 30-90 min/session.
Risks
Post-treatment swelling/pain, skin necrosis, nerve injury, DVT. Ethanol is most effective but most aggressive.
Recovery
One-night stay if GA. Local compression. Inter-session MRI follow-up.
Practical information
General anesthesia. Outpatient procedure (return home the same day).
