What does this intervention involve?

Background

Extensive iliofemoral DVT with severe symptoms may benefit from endovascular treatment to reduce post-thrombotic syndrome risk.

Procedure

Catheter-directed fibrinolysis (continuous agent infusion 12-24h) or mechanical thrombectomy (aspiration, fragmentation). Duration varies.

Risks

Major bleeding (especially with fibrinolysis), pulmonary embolism, venous injury.

Recovery

2-5 day hospitalization. Prolonged anticoagulation. Doppler follow-up.

Practical information

Local anesthesia. Outpatient procedure (return home the same day).
