What does this intervention involve?
Background
CTEPH is caused by chronic pulmonary artery clots. BPA is offered when surgery is not feasible.
Procedure
Multiple staged sessions (3-6). Balloon dilation via femoral vein. Duration: 1-2 hours/session.
Risks
Reperfusion pulmonary edema, hemoptysis, arterial perforation.
Recovery
1-2 nights per session. Cardiac ultrasound between sessions.
Practical information
Local anesthesia. Hospital stay: 1 to 2 nights.
