What does this intervention involve?
Background
Patients unable to eat orally (swallowing disorders, head/neck cancer, neurological disease) requiring prolonged enteral nutrition.
Procedure
Under local anesthesia/sedation, stomach inflated with air. Under fluoroscopy, stomach fixated to abdominal wall (gastropexy) then tube inserted. Duration: 30-45 minutes.
Risks
Site infection, tube displacement, peritoneal leak, pneumoperitoneum.
Recovery
Feeding starts at 24h. Daily site care. Tube change every 3-6 months.
Practical information
Local anesthesia. Outpatient procedure (return home the same day).
